MIKE KNOWLER

It is with good reason that Mike Knowler is known as “the Godfather of Liverpool House Music”.  He is widely recognised as the one of the most influential figures on the North West House music scene, and his name evokes fond memories of gigs on Merseyside that have become the stuff of Liverpool legend.

As a DJ, Mike has reinvented himself many times in a career that has spanned nearly four decades.  He started in the early ‘70s with residencies at various venues in his home town of Southport playing rare Soul and R’n’B.  But it was a trip to the New Music Seminar in New York in July 1986 that proved to be the catalyst, setting him on a path that would guarantee his place in the history books.  In New York, Mike discovered House music and the DJ skill of deep mixing.  He went on to break Acid House in clubs across Liverpool including The State Ballroom, and more notably at the UK’s first legal all-night raves at Quadrant Park near Bootle.

Throughout the ‘90s Mike filled his record box with rare US imports and fashionable American House tunes which he span in the coolest bars around Liverpool.  He also remained true to his roots by playing Retro and Anthems sets which glanced back to his early days at The State and The Quad.  Since the turn of the millennium, Mike has continued to make guest appearances at selected events, and is looking forward to celebrating four decades in the business in 2009.

ANDY CARROLL

Probably, the best words to describe Andy Carroll are “music entrepreneur”.  For more than twenty years, he has been involved in every aspect of the dance music industry:  pioneer; DJ; promoter; roadie; A&R; and general lover of House music.  This man has been there, done it, and lives to tell the story.

Andy is widely known for his early days as a DJ at The State in Liverpool and Quadrant Park in Bootle.  However his main claim to fame is as one of the co-founders of Liverpool clubbing empire, Cream.  With his eclectic musical tastes and little black book of contacts, he was perfectly placed to push the boundaries and test new ideas amongst the youth in a city that was crying out for something would bring them together.  Acid House music was that something and Andy Carroll was part of the zeitgeist.

Nowadays Andy concentrates on the DJing and can be found at major club nights all over the world.
